I would try to catch the raccoon that went on a death march dragging the rooster over the hill to grandmas house but that’s just me.

Get a trail camera,set up pointed at your coop. Then you might figure out exactly what it was.
Grey fox are great climbers.
I would not have much hope catching a fox in a live trap. They are to smart for that. Racoons are pretty easy to catch in those tho.
Your best option now is closing your chickens up at dusk, in a coop that nothing else can get in.
Trail cameras are fun, i have 6 of them. 4 running year around. I love seeing the wildlife that surrounds me.
Recent sighting are a sow black bear and her 3 cubs. No walking around in my woods without my hand held boat horn and pepper spray in my pocket! Or maybe.... no walking around in the woods at all.

I Have several and hardly a night (when most of the predators roam here) that I don't see a predator on at least one of my cameras.

Possum is my guess.

A possum track looks more like a cats track.
