What kinda bug are these?

Thank goodness!!!!! I was getting ready to completely tear down coop/run and spray with bleach!!!! They don’t bite chickens right?

You can also catch a few of those bugs and put them in a glass jar and call a local bug extermination company and see if you can bring them there for them to tell you exactly what type of bug they are and that way you will know the proper way to deal with them if you don’t like them around.

My first thought were "red" mites but have read they come out only at night. When squished with white paper towel, you see blood smear. Never heard of "clover" mites but if they're "good" ones & don't bite chickens & humans, I'd leave them.

2017 I had mites (golden colored) but it wasn't bird mites it was "spider" mites although the guy at the AG Dept wasn't too sure, did not realize how many types of mites there are! He had a binder at least 4" thick of picture.

Whatever mites they were, never found any on the girls, in nest box nor roosts but they'd crawl on my feet. So started wearing boots, I have shaving on the ground/dirt. I sprayed with Permethrin, Neem Oil, Insect Soap, dusted with Poultry Dust & Sevin ... They were still present & still alive ... I did remove the girls before doing this. But the girls were getting frustrated in the brooder (8x3x2) so put them back in & sort of gave up.

The mites then started collecting in the corners under the plastic dog bowl I feed fermented feed in. I sprayed the underside with Raid every evening but hate using chemical so then tried Alcohol 91%, Rubbing Alcohol did not work. It worked.

This happed during the summer months, we had a very warm, wet & humid one but soon as it started cooling off, the mites were gone. Never saw them again don't want to.

These guys are out during the day. I wasn't aware the chicken red mites only come out at night. The chicks i have was having a field day picking them of the side of the run.

Pics really aren't really clear enough to ID.
There are SO many insects and they can be very hard to ID.
No need to break out the poisons just because you see a bug n the chicken coop.

Whatever they are I would spray your coop really well with permethrin to make sure they don't hang around.

Hi, I live in Northern Ireland, so may not have the same range of creepie crawlies as all the American poulterers, but am curious to know if any of you recognise this description of a thing I found twice this week, on consecutive days. Looking down on it, it was shaped and coloured like a strawberry, about a third of the size of a ladybird. Not sure if it has six or eight legs. Found only one each of the two days, in the soil, about six feet away from the henhouse. Inside the henhouse I couldn't see anything, clean as a whistle! I'm not worried at this point, unless someone says I should. It's more curiosity, as I've never seen anything like it before. Someone mentioned clover mites, and we have a lot of clover in our grass here, but still, it's new to me. Are my six hens ok if they eat them? Thanks in advance if anyone can enlighten me.

I'm not aware of any insect, spider or other bug/pest that in itself is dangerous for chickens to eat. However, many of those same things are secondary hosts for parasitic worms that could give the chickens worms but that happens and not particularly dangerous.
With a million known species of insects and over 100,000 species of arachnids, it would be impossible to guess from that description.

I agree, they look like red clover mites.

Really? We have them too. I always wondered what they were. Are they called that because they live in clover? If so, we got clover all over the place.
