What kinds of chicken/poultry shows are there, and what are the rules?

Are there shows/shin-digs for mix breed chickens? How about cochins? I have giant blue cochins and one day I wanna take one of the girls to a poultry show. But what do I have to do to get one of my girls in?
The ranch where I bought them didn't have pedigree papers... Do I need pedigree papers? If so, where do I get them?
But even so I know and the breeder knows that the chickens are 100% cochin, I saw the parents and they were cochins. What about silkies? I have a silkie pullet and hen, both black, and I also wanna take them to a show.
And does it cost money? And what will the judges look for? Please tell me all the details!

1. No, birds are not like dogs. You do not need to have a pedigree for them.
2. No, there are no classes for "mixed breeds". Unless you count the 4H shows that have a pen of layers, meats, etc. But for breed shows, no, there are no classes.
3. Cochins and Silkies are both eligible to enter in a show as they are pure breeds. They need to meet the color requirements as well and be as close to the Standard of Perfection as possible.
4. Most times it does cost a small amount of money to enter your birds. It's usually done by "coop." Each bird needs at least one "coop" (small wire cage) to be shown. Others need a minimum of 2 "coops". I have been to shows where a "coop" costs $3/coop and there are several that are $5/coop.

If you do not have it, I highly suggest purchasing the American Poultry Association's Standard of Perfection. It has a points scale and exact descriptions for what the judge is looking for with each breed, variety, etc.

I couldn't see it it was too small. I suppose the next time I visit the ranch I'll ask the lady if they are bred to this American Standard of Perfection thing.

go to the, "bar" that say's Welcome to the APA run your cursor of the link it will pop down a set of links now click the link that says Breed Classification.
It will bring up a pdf of all the breeds.
