What kinds of food scraps, etc are ok to feed the chickens?

I plan to take a trip up to the place you recommended. Thanks!!! Had not planned on getting any so soon but depending on breeds..who knows?
How are you new kids doing?

I found that my chicken's favorite treat is a fruit and yogurt parfait! I use unsweetened yogurt, uncooked rolled oats and frozen mized fruit. They love it, especially if it is hot out.

Mine love carrots, any greens, corn, crushed egg shells, and grass clippings. We have an acre and a half and we have a large compost pile. The chickens LOVE scratching around that. The only thing I don't give them is onion or garlic.

...Amy: many many (most actually) pits and seeds are poisonous ...also onions (garlic can better be "given" by adding to the waterer and changed daily) .... the fact that your birds may not have dropped dead from eating them does not mean that the effect these toxins have on their physiology is not affecting their health.
re: the person who has never cooked oatmeal... well cooking it so it is tasty to US is much more time consuming than cooking it for your chickens... do you have a microwave??? just double the amount of water to the amount of oatmeal (approximately) and cook for two minutes (it should be of a really sticky consistency)> mix just enough in your feed to make it all clump together... easy peasy.
