What makes a show bird?

Are chickens pedigreed like dogs? Or can you show one as long as it fits the breed standard?

I am not trying to get involved in showing (yet, hehehe). But just for example: I have a pretty dominique. If I wanted to show her, would I have to show documents proving that she was a full blooded dominique? Or could I show her anyway just 'cause she looks like one?

They don't need papers like dog verifying that they are of that breed but they do need to fit the breeds standard which you can find out in the book standard of perfection. so they have certain criteria like comb weight feathering, coloring, etc. Hope that helps
