what material to use "on top" of run?

here is my hen house and that area (removing rock next week) will be their little run. We hope to free yard them but they need a place of their own first. What type of material or wire do I use on top? I know not chicken wire but what??

Do you mean what to put over the top of the area? From the fence to the house or?

We used hardware clothe - 1/2" squares for the bottom/underground of our run (which you might want on the fence side...things with claws can get in by digging underneath) and poly-coated hex wire 3/4" for 1 foot above ground level and covering the run.
A little expensive but worth it - done once and done right.

I use an old fishing net for the top of the run

Yes, I mean to cover the top of the run to cover them from things that might come from above. Or even a cat or something that can climb the fence and see them below. I am worried a fishing net wouldn't work as there is a fence on one side.
