so ive been raising peafowl on and off since 2010 or so and ive had my fair share of them getting sick or dying but usually wasnt that bad and the rest of the birds were fine, i always worm them about every 3 months i used safeguard and i also have ivermectin on hand as well as penicillin, anyway so i have some chickens in another pen separated from the peafowl but i have 2 hens that have gotten sick and it got me to thinking is there anything i should have on hand for my peacocks i dont want to lose any of them and i want to be able to help them if they get sick from the chickens

Tylan 200 for respiratory infections.
Metronidazole for blackhead
Toltrazuril for cocci
Valbazen for deworming
Ivermec pour-on for lice
Ivermec injectible for me
Sevin dust for mites
Zactran for bacterial infections
or Baytril 100 as 2nd choice
Fura-zone for wounds
Blu-kote for antiseptic
Vetricin wound spray
Vetricin eye wash
Hydrogen peroxide for clean-up
Meloxicam for pain
or children's liquid aspirin
Triple ointment w/o pain relief for eyes
or better yet Erythromycin but $$
Kaytee baby bird feed for tubing

And then you need your equipment
sutures or needle and thread
scalpel
gauze
tape
syringes various sizes
needles 16ga
tube feeding syringe and catheter
cast material
beak bits for picking

The only meds I *need* for peafowl:
  • Safeguard or Valbazen for internal parasites
  • 1% ivermectin, permethrin spray or dust for external parasites
  • Metronidazole for blackhead (histomoniasis)
  • Baytril (enrofloxacin) for: secondary blackhead infections, respiratory infections, intestinal infections
  • Baycox (toltrazuril) for coccidiosis

Hi! What dosage of toltrazuril and valbazen do you use for peachicks? I want to be ready once I put them on the ground.

Also, should I give those as preventative or only if they get sick?

Thanks! @casportpony @KsKingBee
There is a 2.5 and a 5% version, the dosage is on the label. We give Toltrazuril as a preventative to the chicks once per month until mid winter. Waiting until they get sick will weaken the bird as the liver and digestive system will be damaged and organs do not heal well if at all.

How much do you give them?

How much do you give them?
Toltrazuril, a triazinetrione derivative, is intended for use in chickens and turkeys for the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis. Administration is via drinking water at 25 mg/l for continuous administration over 48 hours or at 75 mg/l given for 8 hours per day, on 2 consecutive days. Both treatments correspond to a dose of approximately 7 mg toltrazuril/kg bw/day. For curative treatment, one medication that can be repeated after 5 days is recommended and for preventive treatment

Of the 2.5% it is 2ml per liter or quart for chickens, turkeys, or Peafowl.
