What on earth??

That’s what someone else said too! I don’t know, maybe?? The feed store we got them from has been giving me a bad run. Our first set of chicks we got from them were sexed and we ended up with four males. We know we can’t keep that many males so we got six more chicks to replace the four that we are losing and now I might have gotten the wrong breed 😢 luckily they said this breed is nice, so that’s a plus.
Unfortunately feed stores are notorious for mixing chicks up. A lot of employees don’t really know much or care and sometimes mislabel them or just put them back in whatever bin, etc. and if customers are allowed to handle them then it’s even worse because they will frequently put them back in the wrong bin too. You can’t really trust that feed store chicks are what they say they are, unfortunately. Which you have now learned the hard way. :( :hugs

But yes, salmon faverolles are a very nice breed. :love

If you got them at a feed store, I am sure someone just put it in the wrong bin. And if you want, we can help verify the other chicks too if you have any.

I think with these two bad runs on chickens I won’t be going to the feed store anymore. It’s so hard because we are attached to them, but no way can we have four boys. I don’t have enough females and my coop is not big enough to support that many hens for that many males. Ugh 😫

So sorry. :hugs do you have a plan for them? Maybe you could rehome them on Craigslist or something? I had great luck

I can vouch for alot of feed store employees not knowing anything. Most are gonna just be labor. Someone to buck hay into someones pickup and carry feed to the customers vehicle. Usually 1 person is a owner and seems to always be a female and the other person is a family member or freind just there to help out. When I was 18, I was the laborer at a feed store in the Santa Cruz, Ca area who didnt know shit. I used to eat my lunch in the back with the baby chicks feeding them my ham, turkey, chicken sandwinch. lol. one day the lady was freaking out cause she thought the chicks were eating each other. Nope it was just they had chicken lunch meat and ketchup on them. lol. I was wierd when I was younger, I mean who puts ketchup on there sandwinch.

I don’t have a plan yet. I don’t want them to turn into cock fighting chickens or chicken soup. I may have to try craigslist. I feel so bad having to get rid of them. They are super spoiled and my kids spend hours with them everyday.

I have raised multipal roos together and have had good luck with them not fighting. You have a better chance of them getting along if they raised together. If you bring another roo in later they will fight but if they establish the pecking order and figure out who is boss then shouldnt fight for too long. If you have alot of hens just put them into groups. If they keep fighting then rehome. Id still raise them a bit bigger just to see who comes out the best for you and keep the ones you might want to breed. I wouldnt get rid off all but 1 right now just because what if the 1 you keep doesnt make it to maturity and you have zero roos. Unless you dont want roo then rehome all.

I’m thinking about keeping the speckled, but the cuckoo maran is really aggressive with the other chickens. At 3 weeks he was dragging them around by their necks. The two Wyandotte’s are super sweet too. As long as they stay sweet to the kids and the other chickens I don’t mind them staying. We didn’t want roos originally, but we have gotten so attached to them.
