my brother works at a place called lykes, hes in the department of mowing so he gets to run around fields full of weeds grass ditches and etc all day long, trust me he finds alot more then he brings home but usaully its every so often he brings something home, heres my other baby, my bro found him alone in the field and brought him home when he wasnt even feathered any yet, hes about 4 and half months old now and is THE MOST spoiled rotten thing ever, I got a corner of my room tiled where we just started on it, I have him in my room in one of those rabbit cages right now, I can open the door and he will walk out and go straight to the tile and stay there, then when I go to put him up all I gotta do is stand up and he'll walk back to his cage and go back in, He knows not to be on the carpet LOL I tried getting him used to being outside in a bigger pen but he just sits there and glares at me, wont eat wont drink, so I got a bird stuck with me in my room

he's picky about his water to LOL he likes to take bathes (like a duck) but if the water has ANYTHING in it at all, he wont touch it, :There was 3 PIECES! of bedding he kicked up in his water dish, he would not bathe or drink it till I cleaned the whole thing!

ROFL!! Sorry!! That's too funny.

It is true that in most parts of the country you must have a permit in order to keep wild birds. Personally, if you're only hatching & brooding birds that would otherwise have died (like eggs in a field that was about to be plowed), I don't have a problem with it. I do think it's wrong to take eggs away from their natural mothers if the mother is and can still care for them. But it sounds like these are eggs that were in the path of "progress" and wouldn't have made it anyway. Just be careful, because you can get into trouble over it.

It's awesome that your family supports your raising all these critters. What a great experience!!
