What personalities make up your flock

My Standards:

* Ruby the Red Star: Quick & Greedy, 1st to the raisin treats. Lays an egg a day though!

* Cleopatra or "Brownie", True Ameraucana: A real Sweet Heart. We love her. Is 2nd to the bottom of the pecking order.

* Holly Hobbie the Australorp with the crooked foot: Very Sweet, too. Slow and Gentle Little Hen. Bottom of the Pecking Order

* Orangie the RIR/BO Cross: Always running "scared." Pretty Coloring though.

* 3 Other Australorps: Gentle if you try to get an egg out from under them! Nothing too Exciting about them except they love to "stick around the yard" & wait for treats.

My Bantam Silkies~~I love all of them, but Henrietta, my Black Silkie, is the Sweetest Little Hen in the World. Can pick her up & she will ride around the yard on my arm or shoulder~~and she loves it. Will pose for pictures. My absolute favorite.

My Ducks: Always running around and they all keep a cautious distance, but they LOVE to be sung to~~especially Christmas Carols and hymns. They become totally silent & very still while "listening." My ducks have Music in their hearts!

My 2 Dominique pullets are always first in line for treats or greetings, very trusting, friendly and inquisitive, they notice everything. Noisier than the Cochins, Doms like to bawk bawk baaaaawwwk! I want to get some more Doms or Barred Rocks, good looking chickens and good layers.

My 2 Blue Cochins (1 pullet and 1 roo) are pretty mellow, they hang back, avoid being picked up or run away, scratch and peck more than my Doms. Huge chickens that don't put up with any harassment and usually dominate the brawl or walk away. Little Ricky my rooster is a sweetheart, I hope he stays that way, crows a few times at 4:30am when the newspaper guy comes by

but then he goes back to bed

My Cochin pullet is an airhead, seems to be in another world most of the time...always last in line.

My 4 get along really well, so far so good,

Fred- Laid back, parks himself on the pile of scratch, eats his share and then goes back into the coop to sit on the roost. DH jokes that she should have named him Onslow (from Keeping Up Appearances)

Rosebud- Dominant hen. Quite a talker. I think she complains about the other hens. Every time she sees me, she comes up talking, follows me around talking.

Nellie & Amelia- Skittish, flighty

Brownie- Liad back, friendly. DD's pet chicken. Been carried around and petted since her first week of life and just seems resigned to it.

Blossom- Shy, quiet, tends to get picked on by others

Arrow- Was 2nd in command. Constantly pestered Fred until she got sent to the neighbor's coop for a week. His hens beat her up and we got her back. Now she's on the bottom. We can always tell her apart because she has scraggly feathers from Nellie and Amelia harrassing her. Very people friendly, perches on my shoulder like a parrot

Okay:
Dot GLW - Lays an egg everyday and her egg song gets everyone in a tither - she is as loud as the roo
Lutzie GLW - Same age as Dot, has not yet laid an egg but feels she is 2nd in command of the Pullets. ( both liked being held as chicks but now neither want any people interaction so long as they have food and water and I let them out to range twice a day.

Roo - SLW Roo - I think of him as the tour guide and is always keeping the tourist in line as he leads them around the grounds - He comes a running if Dot is laying an egg. He protests being locked up and would prefer to range all day but he was taken and survived a fox attack thanks to Mommy chasing after him and the fox and persuaded the fox to drop him. He likes to pose for me when I have the camera out - I am not sure what he thinks of me. I do not hold him much. When the fox got him he let us hold him for over an hour before acting like he wanted down and enjoyed being loved on.

Addidas Barred Rock - always inquisitive, smartest of the flock, first to inquire after treats, if we can hold her she likes to be held but then when she wants down - she wants down - first to lay an egg - nice girl.

The twins SLW - For a long time they were so identical I could not tell them apart but ones comb is more developed than the others, skittish, they don't like us too much but once in a while will come for a treat if it is berries. None of my SLW would tolerate being held as chicks - all acted nuts

Annie: (BSL with a rose comb) She is a sweetheart that will always let us pick her up. She was the smallest of our babies and the other chicks were always picking on her. She is still the smallest but has been giving them payback ever since she grew up. Nice to people but mean to the other birds.

Nina: (BSL) She is the biggest and very chatty. If I come out without treats she has a lot to say.

Lily: (BSL) Almost a twin to Nina except if you sit down with treats she will always hop up into your lap.

Penny: (EE) She is very sweet and always walks around with her head and tail held high like she is royalty.

Ida: (EE) Sometimes she is friendly and sometimes she is flighty. She will let us pick her up sometimes if she is in the mood.

Maddy: (EE) She is our crazy chicken. She always has an insane look in her eye and is very skittish. She is usually off doing her own thing and not with the rest of the flock. When she realizes she is too far from them she crouches low and runs as fast as she can to rejoin them.
