What predator attacked my chicken?

I'm honestly suprised I haven't asked this question but we trust our chickens always and travel and come at 9:00pm then close the coop never an attack happened but when we locked them up around 6 pm later on at 4 am we awoke to a deathly scream of an animal and ran outside and open the chicken coop and saw a bunch of feathers. I ran to the run to find my beloved chicken attacked at first I though the predator ripped her feathers and ran off because of us. In the morning we let them free ran and she ran to the garage so when I picked her up she moved her wing to exposted a deeply wound and yes she is still recovering but the week another attack! But luckily we ran in time before the predator could do any damage. When we checked her out and put her back to the roost she jumped back down! Well today was a different story we awoke to wolfs howling or loud whimpering so I shined the flashlight and saw a raccoons! Snacking on garbage! But what I'm wondering is what will attack a chicken and target the thigh area?

Racoon sounds like a good pick.
Predators done care what part of the body they go for when they are hungry, they aren't too picky.

Hopefully you can get that coop secure before you have any more attacks.

Raccoon or opossum. I had a opossum come in my coop door and pull a broody hen off the nest I heard her a ran out with the gun. (I got him) but in the past I have had the opossum get eggs and chickens. You should sit a tarp because it will just keep coming back.

I agree with the coon or opossum consensus. The best method is to trap and dispatch.
Raccoons are smart and will become trap resistant if you try to let them live. They will travel quite a distance so unless you were to release them at least 25 miles away, they will come back to the easy meal they already know about.

Thanks a lot bc I thought it was a weasel Well we have blocked off the run from them so the predator can't get back in.

Could they be reaching through the wire? Racoons do that a lot.

Get a game cam. It will be back then you will know what you have.

Don't release the raccoons they can damage the ecosystem that you release them too, they will be unfamiliar with their surroundings and go for easy meals such as bird eggs and chicks in nests damaging the bird population in that area. Just kill the raccoon their population is too high, and no one else really wants a raccoon.
