Interested to know what others use to prevent/kill worms in poultry. I have been using food grade DE mixed with their lay pellets.

I use garlic and vinegar in the water bottle. When I had my flock in a proper ccop I added DE to the pine shavings to kill any worms that might be in the poop, thereby not allowing a concentration of worm eggs . Intestinal worms, mites, and most other parasites need a warm , moist environment to flourish. Food Grade DE when added to the litter , creates a very dry environment.

I added the garlic because there have been some studies in humans that garlic can certain parasites and biting insects.

The vinegar I added because my research informed me that certain parasites that lurk in the crop and intestines prefer a neutral or alkaline environment. The vinegar creates an acidic environment .

I have never found any research that supports the things I did or do, no studies specific to adding garlic to water or vinegar for the purpose of parasite control.

To ask the same question--If I but D.E. in my deep litter weekly, and dust the perches, put a bit of D.E in there pellets, and give them ashes and dust bath area, and wash there feet, and apply vasoline 3x a year, and inspect at least the friendly ones up close every so often, then I MOST LIKELY have worm and mite free chickens? I hope that is enough. Sometimes the 'little peckers' are a real pain.
