what production breed is laying such a dark egg

I had to buy eggs at the grocery today. I know, I know, no good backyard chickener should admit such a thing. Anyway, the eggs were very very dark brown. Just what chicken are they using in a commercial situation that is laying eggs dark enough to be maran's?

Some of the Red Stars / Red Sex Links from McMurray in the past have laid eggs 4/5 or as dark or darker than the birds they were selling as Cuckoo Marans, and some Marans from various other places.

The red sex links can lay a darker shelled egg. I also have a Rhode Island Red that lays pretty dark egg.

I have a few ISA browns that lay as dark a brown as my hatchery welsummers did.
