I have to disagree, I would get coturnix because buttons need to be indoors, and need shavings. They also should be housed in pairs and if I am correct you were looking to have birds that can live in colonies??

Don't be in such a rush to get more birds. You are still learning how to take care of your Bobwhites properly and still asking a lot of basic questions. Get a couple of more years of experience with them before adding more birds.

If you absolutely can't make yourself wait, and your parents agree to you getting another type of bird, go with coturnix. They are a good beginner bird -- and you are still a beginner at quail keeping. Get a couple of years worth of experience with them, and THEN think about something more than that.

You said you have some cages on hand. What type of cages do you have that you are wanting to use for the new quail that you want?

If your having good luck with the bobs you should just stick with them, play around with the colors and breeding if your getting bored, which i'm not really sure how much excitement you'll get out of a new breed before that one gets old too...
