What Quality is my Black Rosecomb Roo?

Great pics, Msbear!! You tell the story well. So now I got another question.

I know that most chickens actually don't get enough protein in their diets, and the ones that get more protein thrive. But is there such a thing as too much protein?

And you note that 1lpoock's bird might just be young and that would explain the smaller ear lobe. Do they grow with time?

I've noticed that a lot of the bantams are shown with that "cocky" posture. Head high, chest out, and strut your stuff!

Little show offs. Gotta love it!

I would compare the roos comb and lobes to that of an old man's nose... they never stop growing. With rosecombs, their beauty is at its peak around a year old. They tend to decline after that. If a breeder gets a bird that remains youthful after 2-3 yrs, they're keepers.

I've never heard of too much protien (within reason) in chickens. I know it can cause abnormalties in some waterfowl.

And, you're absolutely right about the bantams... They are not bred for production or meat but just for their looks which make them so popular for showing. ...cocky little son of a guns

Beautiful birds! I don't show but I always want to know and like to see info and pictures or correct or incorrect type etc for different breeds.

Wing feathers show some wear at the tips. Tail not completely grown in. Some hackle feathers appear to be still in the sheaths. Generally not in the kind of feather condition you'd want him to be in if he were going to a show tomorrow.
Also to add: where tail & back meet he shows a "break" where there should be a "sweep".
If he's only 20 weeks old the lobe size is fine.
