I'm suspecting I have at least 2 if not 3 roos in the maran bunch, not sure on the barnevelders as their combs aren't as developed as the marans are. they're all around 4 wks old I believe.

I suspect at least the 2 Marans on the right are Roo's, possibly all 3 in this pic?

and this one a hen?

basically how all 3 barnevelders look, they are a bit more shy and hide in the crowd!

I can take more pics of their wings fanned out or whatever if that is more helpful =)

yeah I've been trying to search through all the threads about things to look for and looking at pics of older birds etc, at least for the barnevelders. And even though the combs are small compared to the marans, I think Cochin might be right since most of the pics I've seen hens barely show any combs even at older stages than my chicks, but what is the thing with the comb color? I've read about the chest colors, haven't found anything bout the combs though.

I digress, I did find the Barnevelder thread by TLS_Ranch about sexing his line of chicks, but all of his still don't seem to have as much comb on them as mine do for the ages. As always I guess the best way to find out is time lol, I'm just going to be disappointed to have like 6 cockerels out of 7 chicks

your post that isn't showing up anymore was what I was talking about, hen = yellow, pink = roo etc
Oh, this?

Yellow = Usually hen but if it gets a large comb it can mean male but those are hardest to sex
Pink = usually roo but depends on age since some hens will get a little pink a bit early
Red = almost all the time a rooster (not talking about full grown chickens)
Black = You have a certain breed of chicken
