What sex are my Bourbon Red turkeys? (almost 11 weeks)

@ Champion Farms-
Thank you! My Bourbon Reds are actually 3 months old now- I started this thread when they were 11 weeks (2.5 weeks ago) because I couldn't tell what gender they are (haven't had turkeys before) but as I have found on searches, I think it may be because I have all one gender and don't have anything to compare them to. You will find photos of them from 2 weeks ago as well as yesterday in the above posts...

@ Chukes4Life- I don't think the man on the video was making any claims , he is just sharing his bird experiences...it is I who made that observation based only on my personal experience, which is that my (4) 3 month old BR's have NEVER strutted, gobbled or talked "turkey" EVER. I have had them since they were 5 weeks old and thought they just had to get older to tell gender! They are leary of me (they were hatched and raised to 5 weeks old by their parents on acreage and not handled) but we have a friendly understanding and routine. They come when I call (I talk to them the only way I have observed them talking) and they follow me etc. I have only heard them make soft calls and bird-like noises. If they are startled they are silent and skedaddle.

@SlingshotlandAR- WOW! From what I have experienced, I would say you definitely have both gender in there, I haven't had any of mine puff up like the one I would assume is a male... but CHUKES4LIFE has experienced both gender acting that way... My guess is 3 female and a male with the off camera one not accounted for. :)

Quote: Oh, I know he wasn't making claims of any sort, just some guesstimates, it's just that I was surprised by the funny noise he used to try to elicit the gobbling response from them, he obviously doesn't know they'll respond to almost any noises that way.

I was just thinking it'd be a bit funny and get some weird responses if he tried to show his family/friends/whatever the behavior making that noise...

Not trying to be judgmental there, I bet most people have made some weird noises at their animals at some point or another.

Telling gender by certain traits can fluctuate in accuracy, I haven't had any two clutches of turkeys or chooks just the same in terms of development, behavior, etc. There's a huge spectrum.

Best wishes.
