What shanpoo can you use for washing a silkie?

Yeah, best to hold the chicen, cradled in your arm, holding feet, then wash with the other hand. Sometimes a hen will stand in the tub and let you wash her, sometimes not...you'll get a bath, too, Lol

Aweee. I was told by family that I'm not allowed to rescue chickens off the side of the road. Mostly because there owners let them wander so one was digging by the road and I really wanted to. Lol this has nothing to do with the thread just. Story i had to tell haha
This was a place I went to get a few hens, this guy's place was so nasty, that's what I mean by rescue. I arrived planning on 3 hens, I left with 10 hens & 2 Roos Lol, just to get them all out of that filthy place. Actually all of them got baths that night. 1 poor hen was bald, plucked, she grew in lovely black feathers, named her Pepper Sprout. The Baby Roo was traumatized, he is now the sweetest, loving boy.

I use normal human shampoo .. herbal one with some good herbs
Do you make your own? Asking because of your signature. I’m not trying to hijack the thread but if you have a recipe the OP could use that may be appreciated. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😻😻

I would appreciate it I’ve been trying to educate myself on Ayurvedic medicine but, thats bot for the faint of heart. 🤣🤣

Tea tree is known to be healing & repels bugs, lavender repels bugs & is therapeutic with a relaxing scent, oatmeal is soothing to irritated skin. Any gentle shampoo without sulfates can work.

Put the water in BEFORE you put the chicken in. Don't try filling the tub, sink, container, while the chicken is in it. Since it's best to let them soak, while softening the pooh in the soapy water, it can be very relaxing for them, once they settle down. Don't let them drink the water, or get soap in their eyes.

Thank you for all the replies. She is broody so hopefully, this bath breaks and cleans her. Im just hoping the bath goes easier than what I think might happen. haha

I've bathed plenty of chickens, since I show them, and they have to be perfectly clean for shows. Only fill the tub enough so it partially covers their chest (not neck deep) when they lay down. As I said, in a few minutes, once they get used to it, they will relax, and typically, they'll lay down in the water. Even the flightiest of chickens will calm down in a few minutes, if you stay calm, and let them adjust to something new.
