Hey guys! My chicken coop had had an accident and since then my chickens have been taking shelter in our garage. A tree fell on my chicken coop and smashed it to pieces
Luckily, all my chickens were happily running around.
The tree had broken during the storm the day before and the huge branch was hanging by a fiber. A wind strong enough to knock it off it's fiber blew and it fell on my coop!!
So... I need to build a new one. Which sucks since I spent so much time making that the best I could! (Btw this happened a week ago) and all those supplies!! Including windows!! Anyway this is a great to start fresh and incorporate more things to make it better! What should I add to my new and improved coop to make it more safe more convient, and comfortable for my babies?
I have strong walls and my coop and run space (though adults are usually free range) are covered with hardware cloth. I have windows that prop open for ventilation and are easily closed and even a nightlight inside the coop the run space also goes underneath the coop. (Coop is elevated about three feet) and there are stairs with a door to go inside and a door to go inside the run space. There is a strong that hooks the chicken door up and you let the string off the hook for the door to go down save thing for nesting boxes. There are roosts, nesting boxes, water, food. Everything but is there anything else I should add to make a more enjoyable experience for my chickens and for myself, as well as making it more convenient and safe? Thanks!
