Hi Gang,

This evening not 20 mins. or so ago I came out to water the garden and check my chicks (2 mos. old) and noticed a tiny chick of some kind all fluff no feathers over by my chick pen. I looked around as it was peeping very loudly and saw no other chicks or a mother of any kind, it seemed to want to be with my chicks so stupidly as the nurturer that I am I picked the lil thing up. I was set and determined to care for it so I got on the computer and found this post. I immediately let the lil one go. Now I'm sitting here writing this post and listening to it peep and peep between my acreage and my neighbors. I feel like crying. How long should I let it stay and peep, should I rescue it and let it go in the morning? We've been seeing a Turkey Hen lately so I'm guessing it's a Turkey Chick that got confused by my chicks peeping and got separated from it's Momma. Oh I feel so terrible for the lil thing...... any suggestions?!?!

I would go get it, if its been awhile and no momma I would rescue it, if you do that I would quarantine it and give some electrolytes in the water and turkey poults don't like to be by themselves they can peep themselves to death.

Awww....... It's dark now so there's no chance of rescuing it. I'm just hoping there was a reason beyond me that the lil thing was left alone and peepin along with my chicks...I can still hear it peepin now and then, it's making some ground for a lil fluffer. Die inside with me in a couple days or die outside tonight, the cycle continues.... thought I was doing right by it when I picked it up, then again when I let it loose.....I hope it makes it thru the night cuz I had often heard Momma outside my bedroom window in the mornin.

Thanx for the feedback :0(

awww so exciting you found a baby wild turkey how cute, but so sad its seperated from its mama. Hopefully it makes it through the night alone and mama wanders back through in the morn and finds it. *fingers crossed*

If you decide to "rescue" it be aware you're committing a crime which can be accompanied by a large fine. Conservation departments everywhere advise people to leave baby wildlife alone. They're usually not lost or abandoned & as a general rule the parents returm for them.
