My pullets, the oldest batch of whom is 17.5 weeks old (four RSL pullets), just started laying. We found our first eggs on Sunday out in our garage. Good thing we finished building our barn on the same day. Today, my son found one of the RSLs around a hillside near the garage, and he found her leaving her spot where she was laying her eggs. She was laying her eggs under a large rock ledge, a pretty good spot actually.
The question is, what should I do with the eggs? Are they safe to eat? Should I just take them out to the coop and use them to hopefully get more of the hens to lay in the nestboxes?
And on that note, any tips on getting pullets to actually lay in nestboxes? So far, it is all happening on the floor of the coop, behind a bucket in the garage, or on the hill near the garage?
