Hello!
We have 3 hens we are needing to get rid of. We have a sweet blue Cochin, but she’s too old to lay anymore. We also have a silkie who lays occasionally but we’re looking for better layers. We also have a polish hen who’s frizzled (possible frazzle) and is a complete spaz. Does anyone know any places that take old unwanted hens and possibly won’t kill them? I live in the New Mexico rural area.
Thanks!

Good news! We found someone that will take them! We have a problem though. Our polish has mites. We’re going to give her a bath and some ivermectin. Should we quarantine her before we give her away? If so, then how long?
If she has mites, the rest of them should be treated as well.
Why don't you reach out to the person who is going to take her and tell them about the mites as well as find out if that's something they're willing to deal with?
When my birds had lice last Spring, I had a cockerel for sale. I had someone reach out to me about buying him and I discovered in the meantime that he had lice. But the buyer was still fine with purchasing him and was going to handle the treatment on his own.

The buyers reached out to us. They still want to take them, all we have to do is bathe them and treat them with the ivermectin. The buyers will quarantine the birds before adding them to their flock.
