My step dog is a mini Dachaund. He is 7 years old we have three other dogs. He is the only one that Will kill the chickens just for sport. I want to take him down a FSR and put him out of my misery. He has killed 7 of my chicks. Does anyone have any suggestions before I end his life? I'm very green to raising chickens.

The dog is just acting on instinct. Please don't kill him. The responsible thing to do is to rehome him. Put an ad in Craigslist and/or the local paper, ask around where you work, find a no-kill shelter or rescue group. Here is a link to a dachshund rescue group. Explain the situation and they should be able to help you.

I guess you have to tread lightly if this is a 'step' dog. Here on our farm, a chicken killing dog is culled, one way or another. I don't tolerate killing of livestock of any kind. You have to decide what the family will tolerate, but rehoming his does sound good. As a small dog, he would be easy to place. Me, I have no patience with a dog killing for sport on my farm, so I am careful with what breeds I have. Use craig's list, it is a great tool. Just meet them at a local gas station just in case. You don't want chicken nappers showing up for the 'chicken killing dog'!
