What should I put in my run. Sand/mud/shavings

Why clear it out....is it pretty broken down?
How often do you change it out?

You wouldn’t have to clear it out ever. I do because I throw garden and veggie matter in there all year for the girls and I feel that muck settles under it. Again, I live in the ‘Great Black Swamp’ lol. So it’s wet. I change chips once maybe twice a year. The chips don’t break down.

Am curious.
That's why most suggest they be 'aged' as there are a plethora of organisms growing on tree bark, and when you grind them up with a bunch of green leaves and pile them up...it can decidedly become a perfect petri dish bonanza of growth.

I don’t have any right now but I use to put a pile in the yard after I brought a pickup load from the township wood chip pile
