Hi, I'm looking to plant something to give the girls some natural cover and shade but, so far, they have eaten the ones I put in. I could really use some suggestions! Thanks!

A big enough shrub

The trick is to get one big enough that even if they do eat it, they will only trim the bottom. I've got a wild blackberry growing just near the exit of their coop right now, it's getting huge, but they're trimming it back perfectly that they can relax under it, be safe, and not have to worry about getting tangled in it. And still it's very full, healthy, and produces a lot of berries above their heads. They're such good pruners.

My rose of sharon is holding up well.So is my forsythia(sp). I got roots for giganticus mithcantus(sp),and I bet it will be ok once big.Chickens seem to take a taste of everything.

They don't touch our Hebe speciosa, or our Helichrysum italicum's
