I'm starting to "design" our outdoor pen for our ducks and I'm wondering what size will be good for their pond. How big are your ponds? I'm looking at some pond kits and they are pretty pricey, is the 4' by 7' by 18 deep, is that too small? I might just get a liner and not get a kit and do it my own shape that way, we'll see.....

I spent a small fortune on my 2 pools....$3.99 at KMart in the sale

I didn't find mine on sale.
I bought a small pool like Nicky's from Walmart for my dog out on the deck so he could cool down. Once he was gone, my other dog used it and once the ducks were old enough to be swimming outside, they inherited it. It is now next to my veggie garden and set up for dogs and ducks to do their thing and I use the water from it to water the garden.

The duck yard has a large kiddie pool with slide (and the ducks do use it

) I change the water every 4 days or so for my 3 runners. Beyond that, it's nasty and the ducks don't stay in long.

I want to build a pond that isn't blue plastic so it fits in with the back yard (which blue plastic fits just fine right now, still have lots of yard work to do around here!) and make it bigger, but need to figure out how to do a bio filter to take care of it so I'm not changing the water every few days. My water bill won't like that with a larger pond.

this is called the Key Largo from Menards.. i have 4 call ducks and its awesome.. I have a tub drain in bottom and a water hydrant at other end. pull the drain, rinse/scrub . re fill ..... had a year now and has worked perfect.. in the winter I put a stock tank heater in it and they swam (ice free) all winter and in Iowa it gets very cold.

I dont have any pics right now, But I just used an old cow water trough its about 100 gallons. I just burried it in the ground, and put some rocks around it, and made steps on the inside of it for them to get in and out.
