I thought I had read on here somewhere that you should NOT use new layers eggs for hatching that you should wait until they get bigger. Can someone tell me what the best practice is for egg size, etc?

I posted an ad on Craigslist for some fertile hatching eggs and the person that responded said that they just started laying, so the eggs were small. Then she said that I could have as many of them as I wanted because they were fertile and they don't egg fertile eggs and nobody she knows does!

I said WHAT? why wouldn't you eat them She said because they're fertile! Oh well...I said, we'll let me know when you get about a dozen and I'll come get them. She asked in exchange for the eggs, if I would let her son pick out a little chick because his favorite he was just killed by a predator. I said no problem, he could come get the pick of the "litter".

It's not that I don't have fertile eggs, but mine are all mixed up and I specifically wanted blue and blue-green egg layers. If all else fails, I can put some of my mixed breed eggs under her. But is there anyone in the Eugene/Springfield, Oregon area with fertile EE eggs for sale?

After you pullet starts laying, I would give it two months before they are ready for hatching. Size really doesn't matter, it is more the age of the bird and how long they have been laying.
