What size legbands? 2 questions

How do I put a legband on a feather legged chicken without it making a bare spot? And how do I decide the size to buy? They will be going on silkies, cochins bantams/standard, Millies and favs standard.

You will want to buy both size 9 and 11 bands. Use the larger ones on the feather footed bantams and the smaller on clean legged bantams and on the juvenile bantams. For full size cochins I believe it is a 15 or 16 and I only band the feather legged when absolutely necessary finding a part in the feathers to place it. Otherwise just hang the band on the outside of their coops on the wire and put on prior to the show.

Thanks I was worried I'd have a feather legged with a big bare spot on it's leg if we showed it. So, I really don't have to leave the bands on all the time, just need them for shows?

yup and some feed stores will carry them but I find it easier just to order through strombergs. Good luck at the shows
