Still working on my hatcher here and ran into another snag.
I have a 2" pc fan but that doesn't seem quite powerful enough so I went to Radio shack and they had two choices. A 1 1/2" and a huge 4".

So back to square one, what size is recommended? I'm using a utility tub for the hatcher and we're putting the insulation on the outside so there is more room inside.

Any suggestions here?

thanks much !!

Although I've never built a homemade 'bator I'd go with the 4" fan. Bigger fan more circulation.

Did you use the huge 4" from Radio Shack. $20???

How did you make your bator???
Hubby is working on it now.

Do you mean the buff and partridge??? I got more silkies since then so that is who I think you mean right? Named them Buffy and Jody. Still haven't figured out if the partridge is a he/she. Isn't laying and isn't crowing!!!

Buffy is laying tons of eggs but don't have a buff roo to go with her. They are eating machines !!! They like anything and everything I put in front of them. Cute and very inquisitive little rascals.

Thanks for the advice on the fans everybody.

Larger fan spinning slower is better than small one spinning fast.

Larger, slower spinning fan creates gentle breeze mixing air to even the temp.

Small fan just creates lot of turbulence whirling the air in a shape of a narrow stream.

I will go with even larger fan than 4 inches in my next bator built.

Then I hook it up to variable voltage plug to control the speed, slowing air movement during the hatch.

This is very important hatching game birds eggs as to not dry them during hatch by excessive air movement.

If you hatch chicken alright but have poor pheasant hatches there is your problem.

Ok so I have my Nokia phone charger for the power. Now where can I get the fan online cheaper than Radio Shack. I think they wanted $30 or so??
I did a search on Ebay and now I'm all confused.

Plus alot of those were being shipped from Hong Kong, Geez. I hat being such a procrastinator:he

Help !!!

I had a fan from an old computer, chances are you know someone with an old computer sitting around, just go in and steal the fan. I think an office store would be cheaper than Radio shack.
I mean the silkies from Shiocton, the 6 splash roos? I do believe you told me ur name on BYC was french toast
