What size pine shavings in the coop for Bantam cochins or is pine pellets better?

I'm getting bantam Cochins in July. Will pine shavings work due to the feathered feet/legs or would pine pellets be better? If shavings, what size? Our local farm store has mini, medium and large flake choices.
