What are some good small breed dogs that can be trusted with chickens?

I am interested in getting another puppy as my dog died at 18 years old a few months ago. She was great with the chickens but at her age i doubt she could have caught one anyways lol.

I have never had a small dog and would prefer one that had a big dog attitude. It should also be somthing that can stay outside in the winter for a few hours a day. Any Ideas?

Well, I was with you until you got to the "stay outside in winter" part. Most small dogs can't do that. There are a few hairy ones, but I'm not sure how they are with chickens.

We have Boston Terriers that leave the chickens well alone but they are pretty hyper and you have to be strict with them. Our female ignores them our male likes to chase and follow them around but never lays a tooth nor paw on them, though he likes to lick them. Yorkies I think would do pretty well with chickens I don't know how well they would do in the cold, as long as they can get off the snow I think they would be fine.

My rat terrier was excellent with tiny banties. He wasn't much for cold weather though. It made him cough.

Small dogs really can't usually take long periods of cold in the winter. Maybe if it had a really thick coat. But don't get dachshunds. They would eat the chickens through the chicken wire when they stuck their heads out to eat the grass.

I guess I should have been more specific, by small I mean 20-30lbs (guess I mean medium after all) and by outside I mean in a run with a dog house and heat lamp and only when no one is home. I was thinking about a Corgi. Anyone have any experience with them around chickens?

It's all in how they are trained. A dog that doesn't have a high prey drive can be taught to leave chickens alone. It gets more difficult if the dog has a high prey drive, but it can be done.

My aunt and uncles corgi is not at all good with chickens, but she is also not at all trained, so who knows. You may also consider a rat terrier. Ours were very good with chickens-they knew which animals were part of the family and which were wild and fair game. They also stayed outside year round with no problems (however this was in GA where is hardly gets below freezing) They are very hardy dogs and cute and sweet as well!
