What small dog breed is good with chickens?

My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is great with the chickens. He doesn't bother or chase them at all. Actually he's a bit scared of them at times! Cavaliers are just really laid back dogs in general. They don't do much besides sit on your lap. They are good agility dogs, not very fast but enjoy it. I don't think they have much hunting instinct left in them anymore.

The other thing I wanted to point out, is if you leave the dog outside for any period of time, it will develop more of a winter coat and then shed more when inside. Making the dog cold when outside and hot when inside, not to mention all the hair. Perhaps just making a safe place inside would be easier, either a crate or gating in the kitchen, etc.
