I have them outside in the day and they love it but I think it is still too cold at night. Can I use the brooder lamp or should I bring them inside?

The conventional wisdom on this site is that you should start chicks out at 90 to 95 degrees the first week and then lower the heat by 5 degrees each week.

How cold is it at night in NC?

Good Luck!!

Yep around 85 at the third week!

The average would be 85 however I've had every hatch so far down to 80F by 3 weeks with no problem. In the summer I keep my house at 78F and I was removing brooder lamps around 2.5-3weeks old. You have to watch the chicks and lower temps slowly. Either way though it's probably too cold no matter where you are to leave them out all night unless you have a lamp that can keep the temp in their pen above 80.

I agree with the other posts. I used an incandesant bulb in my brooder lamp or heat lamp. The main thing is Temperature. For the first week 95 degrees and reduce it 5 degrees each week. When they are babies. the bright light doesn't seem to bother them, they eat, drink and sleep whenever. I put a wireless digital thermometer in the brooder so I could monitor the temp. I kept my brooder in the barn and on really cold nights I covered it to keep the warmth in.
