I know they say 5 degrees a week, but I think its more important to go with what your chicks are telling you. I got mine at ten days old and they like their temps right around 82 then already. They're now two and half weeks old and its about 75 during the day, and I put the red lamp on at night making it closer to 80. The 80 does however have them spraweld out across their box. None in distress or hiding in the shadey corners or anything, but they certainly aren't cold. I live in central PA where we are having some unusually cold weather right now (normally it's 50's-60's most days this time of year, lately it's been 30's and 40's) but before this codl streak I had actually planned on giving the girls some outside time for a few minutes this week and hopefully having them completely off the heat lamp by the end of next week. They say it may get to 68 friday or saturday so I might still try at the end of this week...they need some roaming time! Anyway, the point of this whole thing (sorry I'm long winded) was to tell you, see how they react to temperatures more than textbook specifications.
