My chickens are just shy of a year old laying full size eggs. I have two silkies and everyone else is standard size. So far I have found two of these MINI eggs! Who could be laying these?? Only light layers I have is my Ideal hen and my two silkies, but even for a silkie these are ridiculous lol. Anyone have this happen before?? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Pictured is a normal sized egg from my Ideal hen, then a silkie, and then the two mini eggs.

Sometimes the egg production cycle goes a little wonky and the hen produces an egg that isn't fully put together - there may be only white in there for example (no yolk).

Possible culprits usually are hens interrupted suddenly by some upset or hens getting ready to wind down egg production for a bit.

What's inside the smaller eggs?

Could be a fairty egg.
Fairy, fart, wind, rooster eggs are usually from a tiny piece of tissue breaking loose from the reproductive tract, or an immature ova(yolk) and the body forms an egg around it. Color can be darker than 'normal' as the pigment coating released has to cover a much smaller area so is thicker. Can happen with any age layer, but more common with older layers.

I haven't opened it yet but once I do I'll post pics! Crazy how tiny it is!
