What the Flock! Coop.....

Very nice.

Make sure you have a latch on the nest box so raccoons won't lift it to gain access.
I recently put a latch on my nest box (which is about 3 feet off the ground) so the raccoons wouldn't be able to open it. They started chewing through the 1/2" wood and made a hole almost big enough to climb through.

Since then I have put chicken wire over the hole and cna't use the nest box door. I would fix it but am getting my house ready to sell, so I don't have the time to fix it until I move. I thought this was good info for raccoon proofing.

Nice..VERY NICE!!!!! I have a small coop now and see how in the very near future it will be way too small. Yours is a nice size.....and can you say LUXURIOUS!!!

Thanks everyone, it has been a chore to say the least. For raccoon protection I am using electric wires Arlington the coop itself. Should keep the fox, Fisher and coons out. We did not have any material to recycle nor is craigslist good for us, we live in very small popluated area and it would be an hour plus drive to get any reclaimed wood so all was bought and it cost us over $800 still cheaper than a premade one and bigger. Next time going to get a shed and convert it would be easier and cheaper!
Next week we secure it and put the run in, having family with small kids coming for the 4th and for my chicks safety they need to be in the coop before they come.

Thanks for the compliments. Do you think I need to paint inside?? Wasn't planning on it! :jumpy

I think it looks good without a paint. If you could find a stain that wouldnt effect the chickens that doesnt cost a outrageous amount i would stain the inside.
