What the heck is this on my trail cam

Wrong head and ears for a rat. Possum. Young possums are frequently off by themselves. I've seen plenty of possums the same size as that on their own - and had them try to attack me. I've also seen them attack and injure feral cats. I've no doubt at all that they could do some serious damage to chickens, particularly chicks, though it's probably after eggs.
Omg really the young one are that bold to go after a human?

I thought the same thing. To be perfectly honest I never seen a rat before lol don’t judge. I showed a guy friend asked if he thought it was a rat he didn’t think so e said the chest on the thing looks muscular I thought the same thing the chest reminds me of a boxer or pit (dog) When he work in the chicken farm when he was a kid he the rats where huge I am also thinking that someone let there pet Guinea pig out and it found it’s way in my yard. It’s a thought
I thought the chest looked muscular as well! Ferret?

I had a small possum like that come into the open run last week. I ended up scooping it up in a flower pot and flinging it over the fence. My neighbor never goes out in his yard, so I figure it's ok. :)

That is 100% a possum. You can clearly see his snout and ears in the second photo. This one that I trapped was much smaller than a typical cat and is obviously not a nursing baby.

Rats and ferrets/mink have a totally different facial structure— I’ve owned both before.
Rats have smaller heads and less thick snouts, ferrets/mink have shorter faces and much less pronounced ears. Both also have smaller eyes.

Not to mention the obvious forced perspective happening in the photos, making the animal looks smaller. Everyone thinks your cat is a cougar because it’s closer to the camera.
