So, I set 16 eggs in the incubator. I candled a few days later and 2 of them were not fertile. So, I tossed those 2 and it left me with 14 eggs. They hatched yesterday and during the night. I woke up this morning to 15 fluffy chicks... but the weirdest thing... one of them is BLACK!!! These are out of my White (236) Leghorn hens and Rhode Island Red rooster. ALL the chicks are white and then there is this black one. What the heck?!?!

You have a Brownie in your house! Remember those old tales about "little people" who come out at night and do helpful things around the house? Well, apparently your "Brownie" is a little black hen with more children than she knows what to do with, ROFL

That really is amazing. Here's what I think happened: One of your eggs was a double-yolker. Another of your eggs contained a mutant E/E gene (actually, I don't know much about chicken genetics--E/E is the extended black gene in ducks).

How cool. And weird.
