WHAT THE HECK TRAP IS BEST FOR FREAKING HOVERING FLIES?

Nope. Just hover and nothing else from what I can tell.

A friend in south carolina told me she had gnats that did the same at her place but she had one hen show a bite by swelling around her eyes. Those same Buffalo gnats tried to destroy my flock and treating everything with that stuff TexasKiki posted is what saved the remainder. The friends husband is with Orkin so they were able to identify what it was. Could you capture and take pics of a few of them? I dont think that theyre buffalo gnats inside the coop though, they like open sunny areas theyd come in the house biting me and run to the window once inside, didnt want to even chase me as a meal once indoors. Treating with it would probly help your problem anyway.

Great info. Yes, I will try to net some. They are so fast. They appear as though they'd be easy because they seem not to really go anywhere but they do. Dang things move like there is an energy field around them that cant be accessed and they just stay within inches of wherever you move...untouched. weirdest thing! Maybe I'll name them Star Trek flies or Jetson bugs.

I had a necropsy done on one of my losses so that i was 100% sure of my problem. I realize i may be unclear about that in my prior post but i didnt count on him to diagnose my issue. He only identified what is at their place. Aart will come by when she makes time, she monitors these posts and im sure she will be glad to help by providing her great images.

Heres the link to my thread about my issues if you'd like to learn more just in case.

@aart has good pics of what im concerned about
Black Fly

Nope. Just hover and nothing else from what I can tell.
Probably not black flies then
Lots of different insects, you need to catch one for an ID.
If they are biting your birds, a fan might keep them off.
If they are just annoying you, a net hat might offer some relief.
