What the heck?

So my question is probably obvious...what the heck is that?!?! It's small, brown and squishy. What causes an egg to come out like this?

They're commonly referred to as "fart, wind or dwarf" eggs.

Is it indicative of a problem? Do I need to take some sort of action? I have one hen that has not started laying yet this year, is this a sign of why she hasn't started yet?
