What time do chickens lay eggs??

Are you sure she's a hen?  Also, she may not be getting enough calcium or other vitamins which is causing her to not lay.  Maybe she need more lighting???

She's DEFENTETLY a hen.

My girls seem to lay from dawn to dusk. My girls free range an acre but I have an 8x4x4 coop half of which is a sleeping area . In the other half I have a single covered plastic cat litter box for a nesting box. I put pine straw in it and the hens take turns "dropping off the kids". When one is finished the next in line hops in.

I have 10 hens...they have 12 nesting boxes, but have always all layed their eggs in the same box...Today when I went to gather eggs...there were none in that box...they had all picked a new box at the other end of their coop to lay in...can anyone tell me what could have triggered that?

Sometimes, they switch things around. I have two coops with one laying hen ( I have a total of 10). I find eggs in the dog crate in one coop, or in the nesting boxes in the old coop. Just depends on where she feels like laying. I'll be curious to see what my seven new girls do when they start to lay. Should be any day now!

I have 6 Golden Comets( I'm new to this too!) and I've noticed they lay between 8 and 11am. They all like to use the same nesting box as well.

I only have one laying right now and she lays between 8:30 and 9:30, crazy clockwork. I'm not sure if that will continue.

I let my chickens and ducks out about 8am everyday, they free range until about 8pm. I'm afraid they are laying eggs out in the high brush where I can't get them. They have a huge nesting area inside their coop, and I've noticed they are getting in them but are not laying any eggs. I found my first egg under the roost in the coop yesterday morning and it was broken. My girls ar 5 months old. They sound as though they are laying before 8am but when I go out to let them out to free range there are still no eggs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

At 5 months they are likely JUST starting to lay. That first egg under the roost could very well have been "I feel poop coming" since she has NO idea anything else would be there. They are going into the nest boxes to check out the amenities

If the egg broke on contact, add a lot more bedding. For some reason some of my girls occasionally lay over night but I rarely find one broken. The roosts are 4' up. Backyard chickens with a varied diet (free ranging is GOOD food) have harder shells than store bought eggs from cage raised hens.

They have amazing instincts. If you have not, put wooden or plastic (weighted with a small rock to mimic the weight of a real egg) eggs in the nests. I use mismatched halves of plastic Easter eggs taped together. Easy to spot and the girls don't seem to mind the VERY unlikely color combination. They like to lay where it is safe and if another "hen" laid an egg there it MUST be a good place.
