What time do they go into coop?

Mine head in as soon as dusk comes....if they hear us outside they will stay out longer but by the time the sun is down, they are in for the night. I am not sure if age makes a difference. When mine were younger (all are now a year old) they would stay out and I would have to "show" them to go in. Learning curve I guess....

Dusk.....I noticed that my younger hens would wait until the very last moment before they followed the older girls in until they reached about 1 year. Kids....always want to stay up well past bedtime. And once the bugs

My little flock returns to the coop during the day to lay eggs and if weather isn't favorable. They don't like wind or heavy rain and if you add a little cold to that.....they hunker down inside. They are spoiled rotten. They prefer to rest, preen, and hang out outside of the coop.

I was suprised that my ten went in on their own. They are 8-9 weeks old and I had expected to have to round them up to get them inside their newly completed henhouse. They went in around 830pm.

My hens have always gone to roost before dark. My pullets do now but when they were younger I had to round most of them up in the evenings. Some went into the coop but I had some holdouts. I started giving them scratch/grain/seeds in the coop every evening to get them in. It worked. I tried some other treats such as bread but they would grab up the bread and run back out. They couldn't do that with the scratch grains.

During the day the only time my chickens enter the coop is to lay their eggs. They have their favorite resting spots during the day, but they aren't in their coop. I free range.

Mine have access to "free range" (1000+ sq feet surrounded by a foot-high chicken wire fence) as well as their enclosed run & coop. They're in & out all day long. In to the coop to lay or dust bathe (deep litter method). Out to graze. Into the run to dig holes in the dirt. In to the coop to nap.

They have access to food & water both in the coop & in the run.
