What time do you let your chickens out to free range?

I let mine out at 8:30 because that is when I leave for work. My cochin has laid three eggs and all three have been clear across the field under a gas tank. I know if I leave her in there longer she will have to lay inside, but I go to work and can't.... On weekends I could and maybe train her. All the others are in their nests and one, right by the door.

So, I was wondering when you let yours out... is it routine or just whenever or by design?

Today, I let mine out at 8:30 and not soon enough by their standards--one of the hens jumped up and threw herself against the window. For a split second her face was plastered against the window pane!

It wasn't terribly cold this morning and I usually let them out around 7-7:30am. When it's very cold, I might wait until 9am before opening the doors.

Now that is a picture that is funny!

I hope mine eat the right food and lay their eggs before I let them out and that is why I don't let them out earlier.
