hi all!
what time do you get your chickens out? or go and let them out?
just curious! usually i let my girls out of the main coop into their run about 9am, today i got up at 6am and let them out,,,, they were still sleeping on the roost in the coop..... i thought the time was 7am when i got back in the house,,ugh,, went back to bed.
i think it was too early for them too!

Mine get up at about 6 AM everyday. Sometimes even like 5:30 AM! They are definetly early birds.

We have the door of the coop open for them so they have access to their run so they don't have to wait for me to open the door for them.

My roo's start crowing at 4:30am. Only reason I know is because when I get woke up by the dogs to go pee the little buggers are doing the rooster quartet.

My hens get up about 6:00 am and go out in their run to eat. I can hear the Rooster anytime of night. He crows whenever he hears a dog bark no matter if it is 2 or 3 in the morning.

I usually let mine out about 6:45 am. Some days they are still on the roost (although the roosters are crowing), some days a few have just started milling around the floor of the coop. I have a few late birds (literally, ha!) who stay on the roost longer than the others. These tend to be the ones low on the totem pole, who I think stay up there to be out of pecking range.

If I go out at 6:30 they are still on the roost. If I go out at 7 am they are all waiting at the door to be let out. I have started going out earlier than usual so I can more easily split the chickens into three pens. Giant Rooster goes out the big people door to stay in the yard loose. Young pullets go out the small pop door to the small pen (then door gets closed and locked). Big girls get their large pop door opened and locked open. the higher up girls usually jump out right away, the lower down girls stay in the coop a bit. Going out while everyone is still roosting makes it easy to just pull the giant rooster, then pull the young ones....when they are all milling about, it is too hard to get the right ones going the right way. If I wait to long to let them out, the roosters start fighting (they split into two different day pens) and the big girls start picking on the young pullets.

I think I get a little extra time as mine are back behind my large garage which blocks the light a bit longer. They are in the shade of the garage until after noon.

Earlier than me that's all I know. I started feeling bad when I'd open the door for them around 8:30 and they were making noise and sounding upset in the coop. Since my run is secure with welded wire, hardware cloth, electric fence, and the guard ducks who live in the run anyway I stopped closing the door at night. Once winter comes that'll obviously change, but for now all I know is they are up before me.

On the plus side my roo doesn't start crowing until the sun hits the run. Which is about 9:00 right now.
