What time of day do you usually see hawks hunting your chickens?

The hawks here are not predictable except for the fact that they do not hunt at night

Hawks hunt when they catch a thermal. The thermals are currents of raising heat that begin around mid morning to afternoon(1 ish). Therefor hawks will hunt between these two times. Eagles hunt in a similar way although they don't use thermals so much but still do to a point so will hunt during similar hours. Falcons do not use thermals however they will be no problem with chickens as they hunt mainly small mammals flying insects and small birds. Accipiter hawks such as goshawks don not use thermals however they are very dangerous to hens(especially females as they are larger) and they will hunt in all daylight hours. owls will hunt whenever they get the chance but mainly at night. They usually hunt from a perch but will give chase, especially larger owls or owls hunting birds. Hope this helps !!!!

We have various kinds of hawks here, they hunt when the mood or opportunity strikes. They tend to congregate when we irrigate the hay fields and flush out rodents. I have seen them take prey at all hours of the day, from very early in the morning right up to sunset.

I saw a hawk sitting in a tree not too far away from my chickens that were free ranging just outside the coop. At first, I thought one of my chickens had strayed when I saw something flying. I had scared off the hawk when I came back to the coop. Sometimes I let my sheep run free around the farm just to create more activity while I am busy and not able to pay as much attention to the hens. Not sure it helps though. I still keep watching for that sneaky hawk.

I have my pens covered but had a breach by which a hawk went into one of my pens and went on a killing spree. I was off on an appointment and errands so was gone for quite awhile. When I returned home I heard unusual fussing so went to investigate and saw the bodies and the hawk. I did get the hawk out and retrieved the bodies. Since I repaired the breach from zip ties that deteriorated and now have hog rings. I do give the crows treats and they will usually chase off the hawks. I do see them now and then thoughout the days but more in the mornings. Lately I have been seeing a couple of Red-Tailed hawks in the mornings when I go out to check my cameras. Good luck...
Pullets not far from starting to lay.
