What time of day?

I only have one chicken laying eggs at this point, the others are still too young. It's getting close though!


The one laying hen is a Black Copper Marans, and she lays between 2-4pm. Her eggs so far have been gorgeous and huge- between 2.5-2.75 oz each.

I wouldn't be too concerned about her behavior. Egg laying is new to them. Just like when you have a human baby the first time, it takes some getting used to.

we have 20 girls, all around 20 weeks old now, and just this past week or so started getting eggs. we've only got 5 eggs so far, however they are appearing anywhere from 2pm to around 8pm or so... kinda strange to me.

I have two pullets that began laying after 9am about 3 weeks ago...they have stuck to that routine for most days. Two other pullets start talking about laying their egg about 9am and end up in the same nesting box together and FINALLY get the eggs laid before noon. Two other pullets lay in the morning some days but in the afternoon other days; today is one of those days. I went out at 3:30 to see if they had finished but Lucille was still working on it...not sure if she was sitting on Maureen's egg or if she had not laid yet.

we have some that lay through the whole day so we gather at night which gives us a good count on a daily average

Mine usually lay between 9 am and 1 pm, but today one of my girls layed at 6 pm, silly girls!

My girls seem to lay betweem 12 and 3--some times it's as early as 9--sometimes one of my RIR is sitting in the nest at 5.. who knows what makes them tick...LOL
