What time of the morning do ducks Lay their eggs????

I have two Welsh harlequin ducks and on cayuga duck... Hatched may 18 2009.. They should start laying by Dec. and January I think... and when they do.. When in the morning do they lay their eggs?? or do they lay later on in the day???

Oh the other thing is the tags were mixed up I think... of the WH's they had one marked as a female ( it's a Male) and one marked a Male ( and its a female);; The one that was marked male but is Female hasn't developed a wing patch.. its wing feathers are all still white !!! the other two both have lovely turquoise, blue, to green wing patches. Charley ( guess will have to change to Charlie or charolette LOL... has a light colored cap on head..

I'm wondering if they will start laying at that time of year when the days are so short, it may delay them until February. Let us know. Ducks usually lay in the morning, but the exact time varies, and sometimes they seem to wait until any old time of day. You really can't set your clock by it.

I've never heard of a WH with a white speculum, I wonder it the hatchery mixed up more than the sex, but maybe she's just a really off color WH. Can you post a pic?

I'll try and get a picture today and when we go out tomorrow I'll get it or them processed and then see if I can scan it on to computer and then post it.. at least I think you can do that


I went in and looked at wifellas pictures and Charlie looks like her Shelly...

mine lay between 5:30 and 8:30 everyday. except last night 1 layed at 7:30 and i have never had a duck lay at night before

Hubby started letting ducks out one morning about 6 weeks or so ago. Maybe a little longer around 6:45 in the morning.... I had planned ( or so I thought LOL) to hopefully train them to stay in till after 9:00 in the morning... Welp that went out the window..

Charlie and Amy both girls are quacking between 6:30 and quarter to 7 every morning... don't hear a peep out of the cayuga Morgan..
Well except when I try and pick her up... You'd think I was killing her... Amy too..
Charlie( Girl) , Chase and Stephanie ( boys) don't hardly fuss at all... Gotta rename Stehapnie. drats metzers got tags mixed up.. It took me awhile to figure out that Charlie was a she and not a boy... Wondered why Amy and who I thought was a him both were so loud.. LOL... I kept going by what tags said ... Think it finally hit me that there was a boo boo on their part.. Oh well I still love them...

Stephanie is a dear. Guess I will have to call him Stephen..
