What to cover run with for predator protection

My chicken run is covered with 2" chicken wire. It was the least expensive, is flexible to work with, it works better than 1" or smaller when there is a snow load ( I just put on a hooded jacket & go inside the run to tap inside the wire cover & the snow easily falls thru, instead of being impossible to clear the collapsing snow load) & I was not concerned about the prey birds trying to get thru it as it has covered my chicken runs for many years. Smart to cover their run. Best wishes.

We cover ours with welded wire, too. We also put a plastic lattice panel over it for extra shade in the hot West Texas summers. However, just welded wire keeps the bad guys out perfectly.
Plastic lattice panel, for help with the hot sun. I like this idea

WOW. U just checked Lowe's here in Colorado and those same panels are $21.98 each.

Yep. I've been eyeing them at my Lowe's in Colorado for 2 years for my cold frames. But I'm having a hard time with that price and I'm not convinced they will hold up to our high UV and hail :(

High UV, haik and high winds. My run is 36ftx24ft (864 SQ ft) 6foot tall. I'm still trying to figure out whether to use wire or hardware coth on top. I can see the HC blowing off

Oh, definitely high winds, every time there's a wind warning in the state it includes my house. My husband and I have visions of chickens halfway up the fence just pinned there by the wind unable to move.
