Hi there! I need some expert advice. Though not a complete neophyte, I am certainly newish to the world of chick raising. After taking several years off (due to a set of twins), we find ourselves with a half dozen new babies as of yesterday. 4 Red Sexlinks and 2 Speckled Sussex. The Sexlinks are sweet babies. The Sussexes are both more aggressive--but one of them in particular is a little meanie!!! She spent the entire evening and night last night bowing up to the other five, pecking them in the eyeballs, sitting on them, sulking in a corner while the rest were sleeping, and subsequently charging the lot of them, scooting underneath the other sleeping birds--such a little stinker!!!! The last 2 separate runs of chickens I brooded, I ended up with one rooster each (and I did not then nor do I now want a rooster!!!!!). I had a fairly strong hunch by three weeks of age that each of those chicks were in fact roosters--but it was more of a look in their eyes and the way the seemed to "strut" even as toddlers. But I don't remember them being such little bullies so early. SO my question is this, should I take this chick back to the store I purchased it from and see if they'll swap it out for me??? Should I wait to see if s/he calms down??? I know there is going to be a queen bee--but I've never had such an aggressive chick before (until the other roosters grew up and he their way with my hens on a regular basis). My flock will be small, and I'd like it to be peaceful.... . What should I do????

I am not sure what to do to change behavior but you need to seperate it from the others if you haven't already or it could kill the other chicks.

It may be a roo or just an aggressive female. They go through a stage at about 2-3 weeks when they start setting the pecking order. Can be funny to watch as long as they aren't hurting each other.Hard to say. Might post a pic. You can always call the store and see if they will swap it, can't hurt to try.
