What to do about Lice?

Hello guys!

So, I was checking a chicken to see if she was laying eggs, aaaand, she had lice all around her vent. I put Diatomaceous Earth in their dust bathing area, is there anything else I can do for them? I am trying to go natural if at all possible, but any help would be appreciated. TIA

I use wood ash...But also I use Dominion Dusting Powder on hens..In the coop and on roost...I have a new flock this year that is mite/lice free...

Thank you for the answer! Is Dominion Dusting powder natural? Is there a withdrawal period for it? And do you put it in their dust bating area, or do you individually dust each and every one?

It is not all natural...I put it on each bird...Vent and under wings...Wear rubber gloves and a dust mask...Do not use eggs for 7 days...
Can be repeated in 4 weeks...I put it around the edges of my coop and on the roost when I do my twice a year clean out...
Put the wood ash in the Dusting area...It helps...I have zero bug problems...

I can eat the eggs while using wood ash though, right? I just had my hens start laying and I am barely able to keep them fed even with selling eggs, so I do not think I can afford to throw out the eggs for a week if at all possible. But I will probably try the wood ash.

You can rub your hens vent area and under wings with the ash and then put it in the dusting area...

Good luck....I like all natural too but hate bugs more!

Ok, thank you for your advice, Wood ash..Is is literally ash from burning wood, or is it like bark from a tree called wood ash and where can I get it?

From your fire pit...I always clean out our fire pit and wood stoves and strait to the coop it goes....Hens love it..I sort of mix it with the sand a bit...Its great...
